Students in the ArtsReach Imaginative Writing Program, Dancing with the Wind Literary Magazine.

Published annually since 1989, Dancing with the Wind is an anthology of stories and poems written by ArtsReach student authors, mostly Tohono O’odham and Yaqui (Yoeme). The one-week focused workshops in imaginative writing with the Indian students, led by Native writers and poets, provide the encouragement; the children provide the imagination. “There is power in these pages,” says editor Irvin Morris. “There is beauty too. And magic. In this slim volume of prose and poetry written by the children of the first peoples of Arizona, we encounter proof that the affinity and reverence we have for language has taken root and is alive and well in the next generation.Dancing with the Wind is what becomes possible with a little encouragement and a lot of dedication.
