Our Work

Oyate offers several workshops for small to medium groups on the murky world of "children's books about Indians." Directed at teachers, educators, parents, and anyone else who is interested in learning about how to evaluate children's material for honest portrayals of Indian peoples, and how to select and where to find authentic and respectful materials.

We offer three tiers of workshop modules, which can be arranged and customized to meet your specific needs. To learn more about our workshops, please visit our workshops page.

Book Store

Oyate’s book shop is a vast resource for high-quality literature for children, young adults, and adults. We scrutinize every book before making the decision to carry it, to make sure it meets a high standard of portraying Native people with honesty, authenticity, and integrity.

Our bookstore is also the primary means through which Oyate is able to continue our work. Over 90% of our funding comes directly from the purchase of books from our store. Therefore, while you have a wide choice of retailers when it comes to books, we ask that you consider placing your orders through us. Every purchase you choose to make with Oyate goes directly toward sustaining our work to make the world a place in which Native children can feel safe, informed, and proud about their identities.

Resource Center & Library

Oyate operates a small resource library and offers resources to help you to navigate the world of Native-themes literature and instructional materials. We welcome you to contact us if you have questions, or need help making decisions about what literature might meet your needs for your classroom, your home, or for a gift for someone in your life.
